I am always thinking about how to breathe a little bit more, relax a little bit more in each moment as life throws up its delicious and scaly balls of delights and uh ohhhhhs!

With my background in movement, I have come to discover that being able to “receive” (for me means to relax and surrender) is the opposite quality of creating and offering shapes i.e “giving”…obvious I know, but so tricky to really embody these opposite qualities and be in balance.

As what is life if we aren’t able to really let in all the good things as well as give all we can?  Sometimes it feels scary to let in too much… like the sirens, loud voices, relationships (healthy and unhealthy), bright lights and the full on swing of life which is fab but it can feel a bit much sometimes.  We can be living in reaction to this big offering and begin to shut down. Or we can feel like we have so much to give, receiving is never necessary. You could add your own experience in relation to this!

This is why I feel strongly that in order to learn to receive and not fear the overwhelm that receiving can bring we need to go back to the garden (public or private). Literally just by feeling our brother wind, and breathing and moving with him, against him…in different rhythms like staccato or flow, we can simply start to receive the presence of his gentle gifts. This is surely a great thing to receive!

A lot of the time, when we are in nature we relate to it from “walking” “sitting” or “standing” ~ maybe we are reading, sunbathing, mowing the lawn, watering the flowers or exercising, or looking at something (the butterflies ;). However, if we explore moving/dancing within it, we change our experience. If we move at different levels or track our bodies within the environment through our vision, we pretty soon start to feel more immersed in it and thus more deeply nourished. We also re-gain our life force as we invigorate our entire beings with the purity of nature, its quietness and its gentleness giving us a calmer space from which to bubble up again!

We can really replenish ourselves with the goodness that is already here, present in nature, so that we are filled enough to give even more healthily and from a place of ultimate well-being. YAHHHHHHH!!!

Moving and Sounding


Each time I hold a Movement Matters class or workshop, the thing that strikes a chord with participants the most is when I create a supportive and alive atmosphere for people’s movement journey with my sounds (various instruments or my voice).

I used to be shy, finding it hard to articulate even, and singing…well that was a big no no, having always been told that I sung flatly by friends and teachers. How things change! Now I run classes that incorporate holding the space with sound and am evolving this new resource I have of sounding. Participants are most touched by the fact it reaches something deep inside them that could perhaps not be articulated. Others feed back that they would dearly love to bring their voice to life in a similar way.

What creates this gap that means that there is such a deep longing inside people to connect to this part of themselves? We are each moving towards WHOLENESS after all. This means giving EQUAL value to our voice as well as our body and our mind. Embracing it all.

As an extension of our body, is our voice. We can get into verbal rutts, using the same words, same expressions, over and over…why don’t we play with this? And find our fullest potential through experimenting with our own sounds, volume and pitch?

In my own personal journey, it took being around a camp fire, shaker in hand, in the land of Peru, 2004, to get me to begin dropping my self-consciousness and facing the block in my throat. Gradually, throughout my training with Sandra Reeve and Su Prapto Suryadarmo, both of whom hold the space with sounding, prayers and chants rather than recorded music, I began to unfurl into a more expanded version of myself. Knowing the sense of empowerment it gave, I felt confident to begin sharing this in my own groups, thoroughly enjoying the powerful, altered, time-less realm it creates. Over time, my sounding has become clearer, with more variation, that has in turn given me and the participants in my groups so much pleasure. I have the honour of greeting their movements and their spirits, marking their transitions from one way of moving to another updated way of moving, celebrating their sifting and their shifting.

The digestive system

We continue to nourish, this time bringing the spotlight of awareness to the digestive organs. Our digestive process involves how we take in and break down our experiences until they can be absorbed by the body and soul. How do we accept or reject, digest, integrate and choose what we keep and what we need to release? It’s a constant process of purification.

Learn to make contact with the organs and listen to their needs. Actively create the conditions that will encourage their full and healthy functioning. You will be guided to move the polarities of attitudes relating to each organ – relaxed and tension, kindness and blame, gentleness and strength, weight and lightness, gravity and levity.

Dancing the organs gives them time to come alive to their own presence, so that they expand into their own space. The volume and aliveness of the organs then gives fullness and presence to the body and its movement!

Human Heart – Moving from the heart spreading


“The coronary artery, the vessels of which
literally ‘crown’ the top of the heart,
carries oxygenated blood first to the heart itself. The heart first nourishes
itself so that it may then nourish the rest
of the body. In nature itself, we too must
nourish ourselves first in order to sustain
the resources with which we can share

Take time to re-nourish your heart in this workshop. Our heart has learnt many ways to protect against, harden towards, or open itself in response to life. In fact, it holds much power and the key to moving forward, so let’s give it articulation and time.

Our organs can embody our emotional attitudes. When we shift our attention to listening to them, we can experience such feelings and attitudes. For the heart, we can move the polarities such as open and closed, offering and receiving, giving and taking, kindness and blame.  You will also be guided to experience your heart spreading throughout your whole body as you connect to nourishing your entire being, which in turn nourishes your environment and community.

Life no longer is when the heart stops beating. So come and celebrate the presence and life of this continually pulsing organ!

Why do we need to RETURN TO OUR SENSES?

Dance movement Psychotherapist and Movement Matters facilitator, Tali Rose, invites you to think about re-connecting back to your senses through movement workshops, designed to re-align you to your FULLER sense of self.

Today, our lives are jam packed with technology which means for those periods of time in front of a screen, it is essential to create equal time to feel relaxed and regenerated so that you feel your most effective and most wonderful selves. Ensuring we create this time for ourselves is becoming more important as the side effects of spending too much time on the computer can lead to feeling stressed more than we dare sometimes admit!

As you tap into the laptop, computer or phone, your lives become filtered through a flat screen. It takes you away from the wider possibilities available. If you can give yourselves the chance to re-open your sensing centres, you can remember just how rich this life is. Opening the body, through the senses workshops I offer brings to your closer attention the textures already featuring in the environment, to the scale of objects from tiny to enormous, to the lines and curves, shadows and light, the vividness of colours and the beauty of sounds.

You can then find ways to integrate this into your daily life…How often do you hear the birds at the same time as texting? Or feel the texture of the chair as you write your next e-mail? Doing so BRINGS YOU BACK TO THE PRESENT MOMENT…rather than jumping out of yourselves and into a dis-embodied experience. In this way you can really INHABIT your body, your temple, returning to the whole point of why we are here.
